Photograph courtesy of Forestry Commission, Moray and Aberdeenshire Forest District. A1554
This aerial photograph may have been taken by Forest Research or Survey personnel pulled into help quantify the scale of the destruction by using photographs from aircraft.
The 1953 gale affected large areas of Morayshire as can be seen from this image. The wood has been hit hard and the majority of trees flattened again mainly uprooted rather than broken. Grid reference is given as 200 375 and notes point to very open area of EL on left and some stability of crop on south west edge.
