Silverbanks Sawmill processing windblown timber

One of a set of four photographs taken in March 1954 showing the gale damaged timber stacked in Cordiner’s Sawmill, Banchory. Note how the lorry at the saw bench feed ramp has unloaded its logs – the side pins have been pulled out!
Can anyone explain the purpose of the dark tower with two men on top just beyond the unloading lorry?

I would like to now if anyone has any photos off my father Duncan and his twin brother working in the sawmill in the 1947 to 1955 and got sent to open a sawmill in Dumfries shire

Binding Chain was re-tightened up.
2 Pins were removed.
There was a Trigger Latch in the Chain on the bank side.
It had to be struck with a Hammer or Steel Bar to release it.
That used to be my job, it had to be hit hard and then I ran!
The "dark tower" you ask about is a Sawdust Hopper, the Dust is blow in there.
The Ford Lorry on the Right is waiting to load, the Sawdust would be going to an other industry either as Boiler fuel or for some other use.
