Approach to Strathyre Village 1957
Photograph courtesy of William Fleming, Polmont who worked in Strathyre Forest as an apprentice Forest Craftsman and stayed in the Forestry Hostel.
William’s photograph shows the forest nursery on each side of the road running up as far as the houses. On the extreme left a Stevenson Screen can be seen which housed thermometers from which daily readings would be taken and the results eventually forwarded to the Met Office. Most likely there would also have been a rain gauge nearby.
The house on the right is the Head Forester's house where Alastair Cameron lived at the time.
