Loading Riddoch’s Lorry at Dunbennan, Huntly

Posts bound for a ship at Buckie for onward transportation to the Northern or Western Islands. John Gray is on the lorry completing the load strapping and Peter Milne, Chief Clerk, is just visible with the hat behind the unknown man in the foreground. The site is at Craighead, part of Dunbennan Forest where Riddochs had a small portable mill for some years.

Guess the weight of that load - looks like over weight to me.

The lorry is probably not overloaded, although the manufacturers nominally rated it as a 5 tonner the maximum gross weight on 2 axles in the 1950s would have been 14 tons.
It looks like the lorry is a drop side tipper, the bar and handle on the back is a giveaway.
I think it is most likely to have been owned by a contractor.
