Double mouldboard peat plough Mark 4 at Parkgate

A series of photographs taken at Parkgate Engineering Works owned by the Murray family who manufactured almost all the forestry ploughs from the 1950s through to the 1980s. This photograph taken by Donald Thomson in 1976 shows a D60/-/ t plough head which despite some limitations was put into general use in March 1976. This is the type of head that replaced the single furrow peat ploughs. The aim being to create more stable forests and also reduction in ploughing costs.
