Double mouldboard shallow tine plough at Parkgate

A series of photographs taken at Parkgate Engineering Works owned by the Murray family who manufactured almost all the forestry ploughs from the 1950s through to the 1980s. This photograph taken by Donald Thomson showing a newly manufactured D45/T60 plough head all kitted up and ready for delivery to some forest location. Note the 1 inch diam bolts which from memory were about 10-11 inches long. With strap plates these clamped the head onto the plough beam and had to be tightened fairly often. These were usually made from soft steel but on the double tine heads in harder ground the more expensive stronger high tensile steel versions were often needed as the mild steel bolt threads deformed and stripped off even when double nuts were used. Note the hard weld configuration on the feathers and edges to try and reduce the rate of wear and tear.
