Images of the D7 registration number MGN581L, FC62221 ploughing with a deep single mouldboard plough (S60/T90/m) on a felled site at Ardross Forest. One of the main changes from earlier photographs of this machine is the mounting mechanism of the plough onto the tractor – now a larger version of the double pivot systems used on the mounted ploughs used for the open hillsides. The tractor appears to be carrying out 2 meter spaced ploughing over the site which may have originally grown Scots pine or larch. The free draining dry soil may have had an iron pan layer restricting tree root growth and the intention was to break this up with this deep tine. The person featured in some of the photograph with the driver is Geoff Bartlett (Chief Forester Research) who at the time was based in north England and may have been up to look over the deep ploughing on restocking sites.

Can anyone name the tractor driver? (See the PDF for more images of men and machine)

The man in front of the tractor in this picture is Chief Research Forester Geoffrey Bartlett. The site was at the East end of Ardross Forest. Inchindown near where James Jones had a sawmill on the other side of the road. Comment left on 22 November 2014 at 21:22 by John Keenleyside
