Note that this is a single beam twin tine plough but only one of the tines has a mouldboard attached. The belief was that the single tine below the mouldboard did not create enough disruption in some types of soil and a second tine only was added to the beam but off set to one side so that there were strips of tined ground 2-3 feet apart. In actual fact the soil from the following run of the plough landed on top of the tined only strip and the hope was the roots of the planted tree would take advantage of the additional disturbance and establish a deeper and more stable rooting system.

This plough unit has been readied for a job and is complete with new ropes, new board feathers and spare tine sock stuck in behind the mouldboard. The sock is actually one of the extra deep tine type with its large extended chisel blade front. This beam is also a little different in that neither of the mounting points for the mouldboard tine and the tine only are on the single beam but fixed to outrigged platforms on either side. The hitching point is also different as it is not the usual muscle hitch but looks like a ball with draw bar pin hole through it.
