The Kelly Ripper at Wykeham Experiment 102

A small part of a larch clearfell site has had all the branches and tops removed leaving the site bare apart from the stumps. This allowed the D8 tractor and its large six foot Kelly ripper tooth to work without any minor problems of brash collection on the ripper and obscuring the view of the ongoing operation. The ongoing photographs taken by T C Booth (Calvin Booth) in March 1967 show the outfit crossing the site with ripper tooth down about 4 foot below the surface then a series with the ripper raised and marked off in one foot increments down along the shank and replaceable sock. The overall length of the ripper from below beam to tip of sock is almost 6 feet.
Unfortunately there is no mention of the ripper line spacing but would guess that is well documented in the experiment report.
