Cuthbertson skid plough on Flanders Moss

A newly designed plough frame to carry a single furrow plough head where large skids have replaced the traditional wide wheels which were prone to ‘sledging’ the thin surface vegetation in front of them. The soft peat conditions are very evident from the photographs as the team work to get the outfit going on the experimental plots. Note that the Bord na Mona tractor has no winch and the team have had to resort to a Tirfor hand winch to raise and lower the plough head. Photos by Andy Neustein.
