Views in Ae and Elibank Forests
Forest Research photographs courtesy of Glenn Brearley. Nil Ref No.
Mr Ender Rudolf from Germany or Austria toured around some Forestry Commission sites in Scotland in 1954 and on his return appears to have compiled a photographic album of his visit. He must have copied some of the pages of photographs and returned at least 15 pages to Scotland.
Three pages are shown with nine photographs covering cultivation in either the Forests of Ae or Elibank. This image most likely from Elibank gives a larger view of a Caterpillar D4 tractor working uphill in fairly modest length vegetation pulling a double furrow tine plough. The volume of vegetation and the uphill lift is all but beating the work of the plough to turn out a plantable furrow. Note the plough is mounted on a rear lifting frame drawbar normally used to fit ripper teeth etc.
See PDF for more ploughing furrow images.
