Double Furrow Drainer plough at Jordanlaw Moss

Two Albion Cuthbertson Buffalo tractors pulling a Cuthbertson double mouldboard deep draining plough type S through the peat at Jordanlaw Moss, Edgarhope Forest. Photographs taken by David Seal. There is a note that machine drained down to a depth of 36 inches while crossing over existing double furrow ploughing.
The double furrow no doubt reduced the problem of a large peat furrow volume coming out and catching on the plough beam etc but would of course partially blocked all the drainage channels on the up hillside running into it necessitating some considerable hand work at a later stage. One of the tractors, the one with the hydraulic ram, is registration number LYM824. This photograph was apparently used by James Cuthbertson in his plough catalogue.
