Cuthbertson Buffalo and plough in Clashindarroch

Cuthbertson Buffalo tractor powered by an Albion engine pulling a Cuthbertson single furrow draining plough (FC 0651)through the very soft peat in the Essie Moss area of Clashindarroch Forest next to the Rhynie to Dufftown public road.
The tractor is being driven by local man Bert Legge who normally at this time drove a tracked County ploughing tractor. The FC owned Buffalo registration No LYM824 was on trial, ploughing in various parts of the country and being given some testing conditions. Here the drains are spaced at 21 feet apart and the assumption is that the turf would be cut and spread out in between.
Note the local landmark hill, Tap o’Noth, in the background. Much of this area has been felled, parts abandoned as too soft to harvest, and will not be replanted.
