Cuthbertson Buffalo and plough in Clashindarroch

Cuthbertson Buffalo tractor powered by an Albion engine pulling a Cuthbertson single furrow draining plough through the very soft peat in the Essie Moss area of Clashindarroch Forest next to the Rhynie to Dufftown public road.
The tractor is being driven by local man Bert Legge who normally at this time drove a tracked County ploughing tractor. The FC owned Buffalo registration No LYM824 was on trial, ploughing in various parts of the country and being given some testing conditions. Here the drains are spaced at 21 feet apart and the assumption is that the turf would be cut and spread out in between.
Interestingly this very site has just been harvested or rather part of it abandoned as the site was too soft for the harvesting machinery. The tree cover did not provide enough material for brash mats to safely carry the machines.
