A large mechanical 40 foot drag line excavator creating large fire ponds in Cubin Forest in 1951. The comments continue ‘This amounts to digging down to the water table which was found in places all over to be very high. Water for fire fighting was our greatest worry until we thought of this simple solution. Water was found from one to four feet below the surface between the dunes and with such a drag line one can get six to ten feet of water.’

Can anyone identify the type of excavator?
