This image was wrongly headed as Fowler tractor but looks more like International TD9 or similar. Can anyone confirm? The tractor has a large mechanical winch on the back but no winch rope on the drum. The track plates are mounted on a track chain but the plated have been extended a few inches on the outside by a few inches. Interestingly lodged above the winch appears to be a spare plough sock with long wings which may be part of this demonstration.

The Begg plough is indeed very small in comparison with the tractor and must have been very easy to pull. Can anyone say what is the purpose of the extended metal bar coming out from the back of the plough? On this run the tractor is ploughing in the opposite direction to its last run and throwing the furrow towards the previous furrow creating a platform between two drains with a two spaced furrows on top. This does not really work with a single furrow plough as the next run creates a large unplantable blank area.

The observers are all well dressed and likely to be senior HQ or Research staff. Can anyone be named?

It certainly looks like a TD9 as the more modern Internationals had a hydraulic tank mounted beside the fuel tank. Comment left on 02 August 2014 at 11:09 by Gordon Mackenzie
Definitely an International TD9; and the winch is the original equipment Carco model EA, that came fitted to the war-time lease lend machines. Comment left on 10 August 2014 at 20:45 by Ian Cameron, mobile mechanic Perthshire in the 1960's.
