Begg plough possibly at Tarbolton Workshop
Forestry Commission copyright images of Forest Research photographs courtesy of Glenn Brearley, Roslin. Nil Ref No.
No information on this image and the year is questionable. Possible early version of the Begg Forestry Plough. Note the additional cutting wings on the plough sock and at this stage no soil grip bars on the wheel which has the ratchet plough lifting mechanism. However holes are in place on the rim and would probably added once plough was delivered.
This view shows the simplicity and lightness of this plough which found favour in many forests and was used even up until the 1960s (see Andy Neustein’s History of Plough Development in British Forestry).
Any information on the Begg family and their work on forestry ploughs would be very welcome.
