One of a series of 10 photographs showing a cut turf producing plough being demonstrated at Twiglees Forest west of Lockerbie. This twin furrow plough produced a furrow either side of the drain but as it had an additional turf cutting wheel mechanism fixed on the frame the lines of turf were cut into 30 inch segments.

This photograph details: ‘B2096 Cuthbertson turf Cutting Plough – Twiglees Oct 1947.’

Note that this image shows the rectangular box housing below the plough beam in which is housed the central coulter disc on which blades have been mounted to automatically cut the lineal turf into segments for spreading by hand. Note the Cuthbertson plough numbering sequence – No 37 plough in 1947.
