No information given on this photograph other than a pencil note ‘Spring 1946 - F old’. The photograph was taken by A Brown tle, Lanark but name indistinct.
The plough head is definitely the ‘F’ type denoting a forestry plough rather than Cuthbertson’s traditional hill draining ploughs. The machine is very new and looks as though it is on trial. The frame is a very well manufactured and seems to have features associated with later developments including the tractor winch rope raising system.
Cuthbertson may have used a plough numbering system which denoted the sequence number manufactured in any one year followed by the year in question. In this case it is just possible to make out the last number as 49 on the frame in second photograph of the series. Andy Neustein intimates in his History of Plough Development in British Forestry Part II that this plough type was developed in 1948.
