Church of Scotland Moderator at Speymouth
Photograph courtesy of Sandy Cameron, Teindland with help from Walter Grant, Lhanbryde.
A demonstration of harvesting techniques and processes for the visiting Moderator of the Church of Scotland and his party. Frank Mitchell with the saw and Sandy Cameron with measuring stick are cross cutting Scots pine trees brought to the roadside by skidder into pulp wood and other products such as wood wool billets. Note the heavy aprons they are both wearing to protect their clothes when they lift the cut pieces of wood to stack them into heaps for the lorries.
The forester with the hat speaking to the Moderator is David Jackson who later transferred down to the Alice Holt area. Jim Webster, Speymouth Chief Forester, is at the back of the group.
