This is part of a new set of forest maps covering Dornoch Forest produced in 1968. At this time a Cartographic Section was in operation in HQ and in local Conservancy Offices and were equipped with the technology to produce multiple copies of maps from a master sheet. Prior to this many forests had been surveyed by members of a team From Forest Surveys who rationalised and renumbered all the compartment numbers, enlarged compartments, accommodated forest amalgamations, identified sub compartments and assigned a species and Planting Year to each. A new map code based on black symbols and no colours was introduced. The Survey team also assigned a Yield Class to each sub compartment and for the first time a timber volume and annual rate of growth could be applied to the whole estate.

As can be seen the compartments in this wood have been reduced to only six. Within each compartment, sub compartments of a similar species, yield class and age are given an identification letter starting at letter ‘a’ and also have the species and planting year indicated somewhere. Note that within the same compartment the same species with a difference in age or yield class was allocated another sub compartment letter. Note also that the same letter in the adjacent compartment could and often represented a very different species and its details. Note the name of Holder written in as T J Galt (Tom Galt was the Head Forester in charge of Dornoch and latterly the nursery before he retired circa 1984).

The map covering the Easter Rovie Woods near Rogart is missing.
