One of a series of recently found planting maps for the Dornoch area shows the Woods of Camore and Harriet Woods only. There is a yellow bounded area near what was to become the future Forest Nursery which usually indicates purchase by the FC. This particular map has been hand drawn from the standard OS map but excludes all the incidental data and allows FC information to be added more clearly.

Camore Wood compartments run from No1 to 17 and planted in years 1928-9 thereafter the planting moved to Harriet’s Wood with compartments 18-37 planted 1930-32. Note the RP 1939 in Camore Wood indicating an area which was burnt and replanted in 1939.

The tree species choice tends towards Scots pine (SP) but there are many small areas of Lodgepole pine, Sitka and Norway spruce, European, Japanese and Hybrid larch, Douglas fir, even some Thuya plicata (Western Red Cedar).
