Report No 9 - Mechanical Loading — Hiab Hois
Two files containing about 65 Head Quarters Mechanical Development Committee Reports from 1950 to 1958 were saved from destruction by Jim Christie former Forestry Commission HQ, Plant Engineer. Jim, from Crook of Devon, has kindly made the reports available for scanning and entry onto this website. Please open the PDF to see this full report.
Report No 9 describes the mechanics, use and costs of operating this early Hiab Crane. The report also notes the increasing size of trees being extracted from thinning operations which caused problems with hand loading. Note the critical comment in the sidelines questioning how they managed to hand load large items in the war time (1939-46)!
It is interesting to note that the Swedish manufacturers were represented by Tullos Limited of Aberdeen.
