Felling Scots pine - Inverfarigaig

Jock Thomson, No7 Hillhead, the Forestry Commission houses at Inverfarigaig is seen felling a large Scots pine in what is thought to be Hazel Grove on the Foyer’s side of Inverfarigaig. Jock is using a large early chain saw about which the names Danarm and McCulloch come to mind. The trees must be well up in age, probably over 100 years old and have been marked with a blaze to denote felling. The timber quality of many of the trees appears quite low as the stems in the background are very bent and twisted. Note the axe lying against the branch in the foreground which would have been used to cut off the branches – the saw being too heavy and cumbersome for this task. One suspects the only safety clothing would have been the standard issue of steel toe capped leather boots!
Can anyone confirm the saw type and provide any information on Jock Thomson and the Hazel Grove site?
