Timber harvesting operations — Strathyre For
Photograph taken by Don MacCaskill and image courtesy of Bridget MacCaskill, Strathyre. Don was based as Head Forester at Inverinan from about 1960 through to about 1968 before transferring initially to Allean Forest and then Strathyre Forest in1972.
A series of photographs where two men are seen working with a Timberjack Skidder dragging loads of whole trees to roadside then first cutting off the log material at the first stopping point then pulling forward to the pulp wood stack and cross cutting the smaller stems there. In this photograph the two men are cutting off the points of the trees where the tree lengths have been tied on to the skidder. The skidder operator (no helmet) will untie the bits of tops from the rope slings once he has then pulled forward. This appears to be extraction from a thinning operation rather than clear felling as the trees are quite small.
Can anyone name the two operators and confirm if this is Strathyre Forest?
