Inverinan Forest Nursery circa 1963
Photograph taken by Don MacCaskill and image courtesy of Bridget MacCaskill, Strathyre. Don was based as Head Forester at Inverinan from about 1960 through to 1968 before transferring initially to Allean Forest and then Strathyre Forest.
No information was attached to the photograph but with help from Duncan MacDougall, this has been identified as Inverinan Forest Nursery. The men have firmed up the soil against the tree roots hanging down from the lining out boards and using the spades have levelled up the soil surface. They are now in the process of carefully opening and lifting off the lining out boards leaving a row of evenly spaced lined out tree seedlings which will grow on for another two years in what was termed transplant beds. The next job is to quickly prepare the vertical soil edge for the next row of trees which are already waiting in boards with their roots up in the air.
Duncan says ‘I think that this could be the Eredine squad in Inverinan nursery as they filled in at times because their nursery closed before ours’.
Can anyone name the people?
