John Allison who was a member of the Huntly team taking a break from chemical spraying operations to control heather growth on the top of Balloch Forest most likely using a compound with 2.4D. The area was a later planting as a result of seeking more planting ground further ‘up the hill’ and the trees suffered from severe nutrient deficiencies partially brought on by the strong heather growth.

The Ford Transit van which was the general purpose people and goods carrier of the time is FC No 62051 and Registration No MGN566L

The red suits were special material developed for chemical spraying and were washed after several uses.
