The photograph courtesy of John Keenleyside shows his newly constructed office at Ardgartan Forest, his 6th posting with the Forestry Commission and his first in charge of a forest. John arrived there in 1972 and left in 1979 to take up a position as Chief Forester in charge of the Research Station at Newton near Elgin.

John’s posting to Ardgarten ‘was a shock to the system. I had never worked a day in a Conservancy Forest in my life. This was also the day we went metric, the day we went on to the computer and the day they started to build a new office at the entrance to the Ardgarten Forest'.

John has written an article on Ardgartan Forest and on his time in the area for the Arrochar Tarbet and Ardlui Heritage Society and can be accessed on;
