Millstone Hill Fire Hut
The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many photographs in his forestry career and some are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.
Nice view of the old fire lookout hut on top of Millstone Hill with Mither Tap in the back ground. Interesting to see the old style telephone wire insulators used initially to connect the hut with the forestry office down at Don View. The new looking insulated telephone cable looks as though it has just been installed (hence the small ladder) and would be less likely to breaks and damage from braches and falling trees.

While I understand why no one would have wanted to go to the effort and expense to remove it, it is a bit of an unsightly concrete square sitting next to the summit (albeit slightly off where most people wander). Comment left on 09 December 2024 at 20:21 by Nigel Rowand
