Cross Cut Saw - Hand Felling

No information on the location or people in this photograph but it shows the process of cutting through a marked tree with a cross cut hand saw. They fellers have cut into the tree from the side next to the photographer but cut is not seen in the dark shadow conditions.

On the subject of marking trees the head forester on Panmure Estate had the habit of making the slash mark on Sitka and Norway Spruce second thinnings right at shoulder height on both sides, removing the resin at the end of the day was a painful task.
