A large tour group consisting of members of the Royal Scottish, English, Welsh and Northern Ireland Forestry Societies tour the forests in north Sutherland. No doubt the ongoing discussions and controversies of planting on the peat lands of North Scotland prompted this part of the tour enabling the members to get first hand experience of the subject.

Here the group have been invited out onto an area of ‘dhu lochans’ which is located in the unplanted deer pass between the two forests. The members have reason to be careful as the surface conditions are fairly soft between the pools and the pools them selves are certainly waist deep the whole lot sitting on top of 5 – 6 metres depth of peat – possibly more.
