Joint Forestry Societies’ Tour of North Scot

A large tour group consisting of members of the Royal Scottish, English, Welsh and Northern Ireland Forestry Societies tour the forests in north Sutherland. No doubt the ongoing discussions and controversies of planting on the peat lands of North Scotland prompted this part of the tour enabling the members to get first hand experience of the subject.
This is the view enjoyed by the party on that day from the Cnoc Olasdal area next to the trig point. Dalchork Forest main area stretches away down to the right in the direction of Lairg. The unplanted area running through the middle is what was called the deer pass and was largely unplantable due to deep very soft peat and ‘dhu lochans’. The planted area to the left and running up the hill face is The Corries forest again planted largely with Lodgepole pine.
The image in the PDF shows the trig point with Donnie Williamson, Forres, sitting next to it and in the background right the hill ridge running up to Ben Klibreck. On the left with patches of snow could be Ben Hee.
