Clearing or swiping fire trace
The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.
Large double wheeled tractor swiping a fire trace between a public road and young forest. No indication of location, owner of machine or indeed if it is fire trace work. The Reg No AMM510H may be recognised by someone. The PDF shows the central chain flail mechanism which was very effective, reasonably cheap and easily replaced.
Does anyone have more information on this machine and location?

Looks like a Wolseley swipe or "jungle buster" the chains left a shattered effect rather than a clean cut slowing down regrowth. With the correct length of chains this machine could sap loads of power from the tractor.

The word was 'If the tractor can run over it the swipe can deal with it', mmm!? although I have seen tractors with bent pto. shafts because of it.
