Lunch with Professor Mark L Anderson
The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.
George records that there was a Society of Foresters visit to North Scotland in September 1959 and they visited several State and Private Forests one of them being Cawdor. Here Professor Mark Anderson of Edinburgh University (Appears not be M L Anderson:- see comments below) is having a very nice lunch with John Davies (with pipe) who was either Assistant Conservator or Conservator West Scotland at this time. The third gentleman has so far not been identified. Thanks to Jim Atterson, Inverness, for indentifying the two gentlemen.
Can anyone name the two people and also the type of FC vehicle in the back ground?

I think Leslie that you believe it to be the Commer/Dodge 'Spacevan', produced from 1960 - 1983 and so beloved of Post Office Telecomms, with the 'Busby' sticker on the side and as a British Rail (BR) crewbus as well. For my sins, I owned an ex-British Gas service 'Spacevan', whilst contracting with a Smiths Timbermaster skyline in Ae Forest in the late 1970's. The chassis outriggers gave way, the front brakes, wheel bearings and steering lever arm bushes wore out every 6 months and servicing it was a nightmare. The Ford Transit that replaced it was superior in every way. Comment left on 22 October 2018 at 22:58 by Bill Rayner
