The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.

The cable crane is set on a large clearfelling site in Glen Brittle Forest and has initially extracted some larch pulp wood but is now taking out quite long lengths of Sitka spruce log wood.

The Leyland tractor Igland winch combination is FC No 67652 and Reg No GYL348N. Any information on this winch and who operated it would be very welcome.

This is a Chapelhall built cable crane supplied new to North Scotland Conservancy in July 1974. The cost complete with full operating kit was £6754.
The tractor base was a British Leyland model 255 and the main winch was a much modified Igland 4000. Rope drums mounted on the tractor rear wheels provided storage and winching facilities for the skyline rope and straw line.
Chapelhall Workshop built over 100 tractor mounted cable cranes which provided sterling service to the Forestry Commission.
