Felling 50 year old Sitka Glen Brittle Forest

This is one of a series of photographs which continue in the attached PDF showing Jocky Towns (thought to be anyway) felling a large spruce tree. This view shows Jocky cutting out the face of the butt to determine the direction of fall. In the second view (in the PDF) he is starting his cut from behind but leaving a small hinge attached at the front. Thirdly he has worked his way around the large tree base and inserted his breaking bar into the cut to keep it open and also to assist in tipping it over should this be required. Fourthly Jocky is almost all the way round the tree but still leaving a hinge area uncut in front of the face. Fifth, Jocky has a small smile of successful completion of job as the tree fell in the correct direction without any assistance from the breaking bar which simply fell down as the butt tipped over.
Can anyone provide more details about Jocky?
He is wearing a loggers tape and assume he will now sned the tree and cut off the log lengths and pulp. Not much safety gear – gloves, chain proof boots or trousers!
