Double Furrow Plough - Skye
The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.
This Double furrow head is working in deeper peat and has a working depth of 600mm (named D60/-). The plough frame (FC64182) is carried on two tractor wheels but with added cages for greater flotation. The cages generally gave way to double tractor wheels after this time. Note the large spanner used to tighten the plough head retaining and other bolts mounted on the A frame. In practice it was very seldom used as the large stilsons and sockets in the plough man’s kit were more effective.
