Achnashellach Forest Worker Holdings
The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.
A photograph of a photograph which shows two newly built forest worker holding houses built possibly 40 years previously. The PDF shows another early image and two images of the site as it was in 1981. A very interesting comparison of the condition of the houses and also the surrounding hill area.
Can anyone name the holdings and say when they were built or who stayed in them?

Between '66 and '71 (I think) No1 was occupied by Ian Holmes, Ranger. No1 holding was still Commission owned until about 1982/1983 when my father, Callum "The Glen" MacDonald bought the house and small holdings. We moved there in April 1971 from another F.C. house in Achmore, South Strome forest when he took up the post as Ranger in Achnashellach, at that time covering Laide, Slattadale, Strathbran, Achnashellach and North Strome. He lived there until he passed away in 2013 aged 83.I lived there until 1983 when I went to Cannich as a trainee ranger after 3 years on the squad in Achnashellach.
