Kockums demonstration at Culloden

Kockums demonstration at Culloden

The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.

The demonstration of the Kokums 84-31 is thought to have taken place at Culloden. The machine registration is PSV402V which would have been quite new at time photograph was taken. These were such tough durable machines it is possible that it may have been a reconditioned model brought over from Scandinavia. Can anyone confirm?

Can anyone name the man in the foreground and the driver?

The registration number of this machine is PSC 402V and the Forestry Commission fleet number was FC 50253. It was purchased in May 1980 and after initial trials was allocated to the old East Scotland Conservancy. It may well have been a reconditioned machine as around this time the Forestry Commission did purchase several reconditioned Kockums 822 GP Processors. I think it was me! Anyone remember what I looked like then?
The Inverness Work Study Team (office in the Culloden Sawmill yard) did a series of trials on forwarders and many demos. Our principal trial operator was Colin Croy who had truly excellent skills and a great attitude to the work. The 84-31 was one of our all-time favourites, great terrain capability and power, and especially equipped with the long reach crane. It was Willie Patience in the previous photo, Harvesting Head Forester at Culloden, who frequently obliged us in our studies.
