Chief Forester Fred McAllan presents gifts to George Robertson on his retirement at Strathcarron. Fred must have been Chief Forester at Achnashellach at this time. Can anyone confirm and also give some details about George Robertson?

Looks like Willie Grant (Forester) in distance in front of George and behind George another forester, Keith Mills. Is that Mrs McAllan sitting next to Fred?

Any information on this presentation the people and George would be very welcome.

George and Margaret Robertson (lady seated) with their six children came to Achnashellach from Lochcarron in 1962 when George took tennancy of N°3 FWH at Lair. George was a very experienced horseman, an excellent, concientious worker, always cheerful I don't remember him ever whinge or complain whatever task he was detailed to do. An ex Seaforth TA piper captured at St Valery in 1940, he spent much of his captivity years in Poland working on farms --- with horses. I don't know why Fred was doing the presentation as it was during Bobby Murdoch's tenure 1/c and I'm sure Fred had transferred from South Strome to Glen Garry long before 1980?. I do remember that both George and Fred who also knew horses went off together 'horse dealing' when a new horse was being purchased. I am really sorry I missed this retiral party, the Robertsons were a lovely family and the very best of neighbours during our five year stint in Achnashellach.
