William spent two years on a Forestry Commission apprentice scheme in Strathyre Forest living in the hostel with about 16 other young lads.
This photograph shows Willie Rose (Foreman) and Ian Macdonald on the bench seat overlooking the seed beds which are being hand weeded. William Fleming is nearest in the background between the two men.
