This heavy machine driven by Roy was very capable of ripping and grading road surfaces at many angles and had enough weight to push larger volumes of material sideways without the machine itself crabbing. Rutted forest roads were sometimes ripped with the toothed ripping bar to mix up the surface material and break up hard packed ruts. Often though only the angled blade was needed to scrape the surface sideways and then a second run was enough to spread it back on evenly to provide a suitable surface for the vibrating roller to pack down and create a good forest road surface. Much depended on the amount and size of the stone material in the top surface layers. Large boulders and rocks created substantial difficulties.
