Cable Crane Winch with ground anchors

Great shot of ground anchors being used to anchor back the tower of an Igland Winch. It is difficult to see if a skyline is being used here or whether the winch is in high lead mode.

Ground anchors were labour intensive to set up and from the look of the alignment they have not been moved from the previous rack which will also have fanned out from this point. There were risks of course when driving in the long pins if water pipes and cables were in the area!

This winch looks as if it is being used in high lead mode as there would need to be another set of ground anchors for the skyline if it was being used. Also, the winch does not have the skyline and nylon drums fitted to the wheels. For very short high lead set ups, the nylon was not needed as you could pull the wire ropes round by hand.
Ground anchors were hard to put in but could be even harder to get back out again. I believe that to this day there will still be a set stuck in the ground behind Ardentinny, even the jack would not move them.
