Mounted Tine Ploughing above Strath of Kildonan

Mounted Tine Ploughing above Strath of Kildonan

Date Added: 02 February 2013 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1979 Picture No: 1535

The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.

George’s notes indicate the location as in the Torrish area and the view is across to Morven on the left and Scaraben on the right. This is a Forestry Commission machine but the author does not recall a Forestry Commission forest in this location of the glen and is most likely on hire to a private estate.

The Fiat Allis tractor has been converted to fit a time plough mounted directly on the back. The registration no is THM896S and FC No74901.

The driver looks very like Jocky Thomson who was always on mounted tine tractors in his latter years if not acting as relief driver for the Muskeg.

Check the PDF for more views of the tractor, glen and driver. Can anyone confirm if this is Jocky Thomson?
