Cablecrane course Glengarry Forest

Pulp wood felled, sned, cross cut and stacked by the manual felling team now ready for extraction by the cable crane winch. In the pile next to the camera it appears that one load of pulp has been stacked on a larger log, possibly a saw log, ensuring that it will be easy to guide the wire rope and hook around pile in preparation for dragging it down the rack. In longer hauls the wire rope was often passed around twice to ensure a more secure grip of the bunch of pulp wood logs. The tag chain would be used to pick up the bearer at the same time as the pulp wood. In this case as there was a high volume of thinning and another load of pulp wood has been stacked on top of the first stack with hopefully enough clearance to pass the wire rope around securely and also not too much scattering of the lower pile as it is dragged down the rackway.
Any stories about thinning Sitka spruce in these conditions would be very welcome.
