Cablecrane course Glengarry Forest

This is one of a series of images showing the set up of an Igland winch cable crane which was one of the early medium distance cranes that followed the initial Isachsen cable cranes. They still relied on all the cables being mounted directly on wheel drums etc which limited maximum extraction distances to around 300 metres.
This shot shows how the tower mounted on the tractor was guyed back to the bases of standing trees. The rackway being worked on extends from the tractor up and away from the photographer. The anchor guys are crossed near the tower and attached beside the two top pulleys which experience the full pulling forces of the winch as the load haul in and haul back cables are routes through these.
The higher middle wire is the static skyline wire on which runs the cable crane carriage along the rackway carrying the weight of the load of timber.
