The signs unit based at Balnacoul, Mosstodloch, was responsible for supplying most of the forest signs and picnic furniture for the Forestry Commission forests in Scotland. They also carried out work on signage and picnic tables for private clients from time to time.

Here Jimmy has just finished painting a sign and about to place it on the rack with the others to dry. The technique was not very different from present day systems in that the lettering was all painted in and when dry, the final top coat of green on the sign face applied by roller. The main difference in those days, the paints were all oil based.

Who else worked in the Signs Unit at Balnacoul?
