John Gwynn and Family - Cairnbaan

Date Added: 12 December 2012 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1958 Picture No: 1420

The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.

This family shot was taken around 1958 while George was based in Cairnbaan and shows his District Officer colleague John Gwynn and family with George’s wife Mary (in middle adults). The children are believed to be Graham, Sarah and Andrew.

Not GYWNN family - see comments*

Can anyone confirm the names?

I think this is much later than 1958 - i was born in 1957 moved to Cairnbaan in 1964 and was at school at the same time as Sarah. There was an older boy called Roger. Angela Cumming (nee Smith) Comment left on 25 November 2013 at 13:27 by Angela Cumming
Thanks for the detail on the years. Looking over the records the Deys were in Cairnbaan from 1956 to Aug 1964 but not sure how long the Gwynns were in the area. Also the Deys could have called back on a visit at a later year. This may be 1965 or 1966? Comment left on 26 November 2013 at 16:32 by Norman Davidson

This is definitely not my family, and I don’t recognise them.
We lived in Cairnbaan, firstly in ‘the camp’ and then in Shelbourne Lodge. We moved there in 1957 and left in 1965 or 66 I think.

I don't recognize the place as being Cairnbaan either or the family. John and Nancy Gwynn were living at the camp when I was born in 1952. We moved to just outside Aberfoyle in before Andrew was born in December 1954, probably 1953. We returned to the camp after I had started school so probably 1957. We left Cairnbaan in I think 64 or 65 Comment left on 08 January 2023 at 09:23 by Roger Gwynn
