Old Ploughs museum site Ae Forest

A view of some of the ploughs and ploughing equipment on show near the Ae Management Training Centre. These redundant machines which had been trialled and discarded as ploughing programmes reduced and practices changed are a memorial to the tool that really made it possible to quickly established large areas of forests in the uplands of Scotland from the 1940s onwards.
In the line up the red machine out of sight could be a Begg Plough one of the forerunners of forest ploughs (can anyone confirm); next is the huge Finnish Lokomo deep plough with which it was hoped to break up deep root impervious iron pans and glacial compacted gleys but only achieved limited success – effort was not worth the results; the light yellow plough behind is the legendary Cuthberson plough frame which allowed successful ploughing on deeper peats and soft grounds.
