Pika 52 Processor Kielder Forest
The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.
A demonstration of an early Pika processor in Kielder Forest to foresters from many park of the UK. The processor is mounted on a Valmet 880S base and here the Pika has been tilted to picking up a felled Scots pine tree and having been pulled through is now being cut with a large circular pendulum saw. The heavy branches are a bit of a challenge for the machine and looking at the logs in the little side store the cross cutting is not too efficient at times. The sides of the log store can be dropped and forwarder loading grab sized loads are dropped in a heap.
Operator visibility seems a bit restricted. Can anyone remember this machine?
